How does an interracial relationship work? Another trick question—ask yourself! In fact, the majority of us are engaged in interracial relationships whether we know and admit it or not—because most of us are interracial! That’s right—there are very few societies or families in which diverse races have not mixed. And both scientific and spiritual teachings tell us that is how it is supposed to be. For example the Science of Genetics tells us that the greater the genetic diversity in a marriage the better chances of producing healthier and more robust offspring in every way; the converse is also true, which is a reason why we are not supposed to marry our sisters, brothers, and cousins, which often causes abnormalities in the offspring. And every Spiritual path tells us that we are all one family under God and that we all came from a single family. Another recent landmark study undertaken by Italian geneticists proved that even our concept of “race” is no longer valid as there is more genetic diversity within the so-called races than between them. So, in direct contravention to the theory of the “pure race” being the superior one, both science and spirituality have now agreed that the “superior race” is the more diverse one! As in every other endeavor in life, variety and diversity of races and cultures in a relationship, family, marriage and parenting is the “spice of life” and a cause for celebration and happiness. Some believe that the increase of interracial and multicultural relationships will contribute to and eventually become a main cause of peace in the world. So, imagine, just by having a fulfilling relationship you can contribute to one of the greatest social causes. In fact, since the family is the microcosm of the world, it is the incubator of all of the solutions to the world’s problems. A philosopher once said that “marriage is a workshop”—how true.
